About Send & Return Audio
Why stock devices
Every rack and every setting on this site uses only the devices that come with Ableton Live. There are a few reasons for that.
Stock devices are already on your computer, so you can try anything here tonight without buying a plugin. They also open in any copy of Live 12 that has them, so a rack you get from us doesn't break when you send a project to a friend or open it on another machine.
They teach you more, too. When a rack is built from Live's own devices, you can open it and see exactly what each knob turns. There is no hidden processing. If you want to change the sound, you can, and if you want to build your own, you can see how ours work.
Not every device is in every edition, so every guide says which edition each device comes with.
Who's behind it
Send & Return Audio is run by Tim Sloan, who makes music in Live and builds racks and tools for it. He measured all 85 stock devices in Live 12, their parameters, ranges and defaults, and that device atlas is where the numbers in these guides come from. He writes and tests every guide and rack on the site.
Independent of Ableton
Ableton and Live are trademarks of Ableton AG. We use the names because the site is about their software, but Send & Return Audio is an independent project. We aren't affiliated with Ableton, and nothing here is made, checked or endorsed by them. Where we state a fact about an edition, we check it on ableton.com and say when we checked.
