Tim Sloan builds racks and tools for Ableton Live. He measured all 85 stock devices in Live 12, every parameter, range and default, and that device atlas is the source for the settings in these guides.
What Tim builds
Tim builds racks, templates and tools for Ableton Live, all made from Live's own devices. The free mix kit on this site is his work, from the Vocal Chain rack to the Club Test Master and the mix template. He also writes and tests every guide here, and makes sure each one says which edition of Live it works in.
He uses only stock devices on purpose. Anyone with the right edition can open one of his racks, see which device each knob turns, and change it. How he checks each rack and setting before it goes live is on the how we test page.
The device atlas
To get the numbers right, Tim measured all 85 stock devices in Live 12. For each one he recorded every parameter, its range and its default, straight from Live. That atlas is how the guides know, for example, that Channel EQ's mid band sweeps from 120 Hz to 7.5 kHz, and that EQ Eight offers eight filter shapes on every band. Every setting on the site is checked against it before it is published.
